Excerpts from Zander Hollander Complete Hockey Handbook, 1976-77 (by Reyn Davis)

Marc becomes the first experienced professional coach the Nordiques have ever had ... He succeeds Jean-Guy Gendron, who handled the team for two seasons, finishing first, then second ... Nordiques created room for Boileau by settling with Gendron, who had a year remaining on his contract ... Perfectly bilingual, which you have to be to coach this club in this city where all the major media outlets are French language ... Likes to be liked by his players rather than despised ... Did a very commendable job coaching Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League ... Won an International League championship with Fort Wayne ... Played one NHL season with Detroit ... Loathed the Montreal Canadiens, who told him he would never be a hockey player ... Has worked a variety of jobs from a barge in Alaska to Dodger Stadium, where he was an usher.
