Brother of Thommie Abrahamsson

Joining the rush for Scandinavian talent, New England Whaler management went to Sweden and returned with twin brothers, Christer Abrahamsson, a goaltender, and Thommie, a defenceman.
"Telling them apart was a little difficult the first couple of weeks," says Whaler manager-coach Jack -Kelley, "then I began to recognize the different scars."
Thommy showed the kind of mobility and play-making characteristic of the best Swedish defencemen, like Borje Salming of Toronto Maple Leafs or Lars-Erik Sjoberg of Winnipeg Jets.
European goaltenders, however, aren't normally accorded nearly as much respect. "He was coming along extremely well until he got hurt just before Christmas, 1974. We tried bringing him back from his torn knee ligaments, too soon, as it turned out. But we saw enough. We're very high on his future."

Missed almost two months late in 1975-76 season with a pinched nerve in his neck ... Wears a wire mask ... Twin brother of teammate, Thommie ... Succeeded Al Smith as the Whalers' number one goaltender ... Built his own log cabin in Sweden ... Subject of threatened boycott of Sweden's Canada Cup team by Swedish professional players ... Swedish Ice Hockey Federation threatened to bar Christer and his brother because New England had not paid for their release ... Whalers claimed no agreement had been signed at the time of their signing.
