Excerpts from Pro Hockey, WHA 1976-77 (by Dan Proudfoot) In the doldrums of 1975-76, Ken Baird found enlightenment in the Edmonton Coliseum press box. This is an extremely unlikely spot in which to find any spiritual guidance, because any press box is full of cynics who are enthusiastic about little more than eating. Nevertheless, a knee injury sentenced Baird to duty as an observer from December to March and in the purgatory of the press box Baird got to thinking. "To be honest, I didn't have a good attitude," Baird confessed. "I never really thought about it much until I couldn't play. Then I rea1ized how I wanted to straighten out my approach to the game." In the playoffs, [he] averaged a point-per-game. No more press boxes --- he hopes.
