Regular Season & Playoff Scoring Record (key)

Star of the Nordiques show in old Quebec ... Probably the team's most popular player and admired player in the aisles were some of hockey's loudest and most engaging fans stand six deep ... Set club records for goals, 54, and points, 122, in 1974-75 ... League second-busiest shooter, taking 335 shots last season ... Has dashing good looks ... Rides a motorcycle in the offseason ... a salmon fisherman ... Named 1974-75 WHA second-team All Star at center ... Has received tempting offers from the Los Angeles Kings to return to the NHL ... good golfer.

Serge Bernier got 102 points in 1975-76 and was a mild disappointment. That's right, he was among the top 10 scorers in the WHA, tied with the great Gordie Howe, and observers wondered what was wrong.
Perhaps the reason was that the previous season he was outstanding while playing for Team Canada (stocked by WHA players) in a series against the Soviet Union Nationals and he didn't slow down all year, finishing with 122 points.
"He's a key to our success," says Nordique manager Maurice Filion. "He has to come up with a big season for us. He has all the ingredients --- the moves, the strength, he can skate. We need him playing at his best."
The big center never scored more than 68 points in the NHL but progressed steadily after joining the Nordiques. This year will
prove, though, whether he can be a consistantly aggressive scorer.
