Excerpts from Zander Hollander Complete Hockey Handbook, 1976-77 (by Reyn Davis)

Played superbly for Calgary in 1976 Playoffs, firing five goals and adding five assists in 10 games ... Two of his goals were scored while the Cowboys were shorthanded ... Stockily built ... Gritty performer ... Makes his home in Phoenix, hunts rattlesnakes in the off season ... Finds it more challenging than golf ... Called "Big Indian" by his teammates ... his ancestry, however, is Macedonian.

Excerpts from Pro Hockey, WHA 1976-77 (by Dan Proudfoot)

... Who has had stops at Toronto, Buffalo, Detroit and St. Louis in the NHL and never failed to give his best. In St. Louis, particularly, he was a great crowd favorite for his hustle in penalty-killing and his obvious enthusiasm for the game. But he was a free agent when he signed with the Cowboys and he played so well he shouldn't have to move again. In the playoffs the defenseman-left wing tied with Gavin Kirk as the team leader with 10 points in 10 games, and Evans's total included two short-handed goals. Cowboys, naturally, booked him for another year.

The Hockey News • January 26, 1973

Evans loved the area around Phoenix and goes back there each summer for off-season recreation. He water skis, he surfs in a man-made surf at Tempe, Ariz., and he hunts rattlesnakes at night in the desert. Rattlesnake hunting isn't a common sport, even in the rugged Southwest, but Evans claims it's a lot of fun. He says some rattlesnake hunters barbecue the meat but it nevertheless remains tasteless.
