Excerpts from Pro Hockey, WHA 1976-77 (by Dan Proudfoot)
Bob Fitchner was one of the few original Indianapolis Racers that lasted more than a year with the expansion team, and the reason behind his durability is the same reason Nordiques traded to get him during the 1975-76 season.
Fitchner is a big, hard-working forward who can create scoring opportunities or handle tough situations. Those qualities don't show up in the scoring statistics, which show him with seven goals and nine assists in 21 games with Quebec, but Nordiques consider them to be ingredients they need badly.
Marc Boileau coached Fitchner at Fort Wayne and will be counting on consistency from him in his plans to make Nordiques a steadier team with more emphasis on checking. This comment from Indianapolis suggests Fitchner will do tbe job. "We hated to lose him," said Racer coach Jacques Demers, "he game us 100 per cent every night."
