Excerpts from Pro Hockey, WHA 1975-76 (by Dan Proudfoot)
In the summer of 1974 Gary Gambucci was married. In the autumn of 1974 he came to the Minnesota Fighting Saints in dreadful condition.
"He was not in the best of shape," says Saints manager Glen Sonmor, "and then he got off to a horrendous start. We had made up our minds to play him, but finally we decided he should go to the minors for a while and he agreed.
"Now, this is the point. At Christmas Gary had only four goals for us. He ended up with 19 goals even though he missed 10 games while he was down with the Johnstown team.
"Obviously, if he comes prepared he can do a lot more for us."
Gambucci, 29, and Mike Antonovich, 24, Bill Klatt, 28, and Mike Curran, 31, were all Minnesota-born players with the Saints in 1974-75.
