Geoffrion Follows Famous Father no byline The Hockey News November 24, 1978
The old sports adage of like father, like son is holding true for the Geoffrion family. The Quebec Nordiques' rookie right winger is starting out in professional hockey and if he even comes close to emulating his famous father, Bernard "Boom Boom" Geoffrion, the Nordiques will have themselves some kind of a hockey player.
The younger Geoffrion, who stands 5-10 and weighs 185, is a chip off the old block. His father was a 5-9, 180 pound right-winger with a blistering shot that put the fear in the hearts of NHL goalers. The older
Boomer scored 393 goals in 16 seasons and it appears young Geolfrion has inherited some of his dad's scoring know-how.
Last year, Geoffrion scored 68 times in 71 games for Cornwall of the Quebec Major Hockey League and the Nordiques figure he'll enhance their offense once he gets the hang of the pro game.
The Nordiques had to bid high to land Geoffrion, who was the No. 1 draft pick of the Montreal Canadiens this season. But the younger "Boomer" didn't like the deal the Stanley Cup champs were offering and opted for
the WHA and the Nordiques.
