Hartsburg One of the Baby Bulls no byline The Hockey News December 1, 1978
When the Birmingham Bulls decided to swoop down on Canadian major junior hockey ranks and hire themselves a flock of hockey players one of those they eached out for was defenseman Craig Hartsburg.
The youngster is a promising hockey player and the Bulls realized this when they plucked their underage stars. Hartsburg is only 19, stands 6-1 and weighs in at 190 pounds. Last season he saw limited action because of injuries with Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, the same team that spawned Wayne Gretzky for the WHA. In 36 starts, Hartsburg scored 15 times, set up 42 more goals and ended up with 101 penalty minutes.
The Bulls use Hartsburg in their offensive plans for a reason. He moves the puck. He is also one of those rare rookies who plays as a plus player. The Bulls' rearguard had a plus 11 percentage and 10 scoring
points in 12 games, including one power play goal.
Hartsburg also leads the Bulls in shots on goal with 37, also a rare happening tor a defenseman.
