Excerpts from Zander Hollander Complete Hockey Handbook, 1975-76 (by Reyn Davis)

Stabilizes the defense with overall sound play... Rarely caught out of position... has excellent reach, a fact teammates jokingly point out is attributable to the length of his arms... Club crossword champion... Rarely shoots, but his shot is considered one of the best in the league from inside the blue line by one WH a goaltender... Rides a trail bike... Had offers from the Kansas City Scouts but decided to stay put... Is his own negotiator.

Excerpts from Pro Hockey, WHA 1976-77 (by Dan Proudfoot)

One reason Bill Hunter can swear that the Oilers will cut down on their goals-against in 1976-77 is the large presence of Larry Hornung. Hunter drafted Hornung at the WHA annual meetings in June 1976, remembering Hornung's outstanding debut with the Winnipeg Jets in 1972-73. Hornung got 13 goals and 45 assists that first year, good enough to be voted to the second all-star team. Torn knee ligaments in 1973-74 put him off-stride, though, and he never regained his stature.

"We know Larry can help us," says Hunter, "He's been around for a long time but he's only 31. He can be an important part of our team for years to come."
