Excerpts from Pro Hockey, WHA 1976-77 (by Dan Proudfoot)
The most controversial player in the WHA in 1975-76 was Rick Jodzio, a baby-faced left wing with a cool capacity for levelling opponents. Indianapolis Racers demanded that the league investigate Jodzio's "vicious and brutal attack" that broke Michel Dubois's nose mid-season, and Jodzio's charge at Marc Tardif in the playoffs stands as the low-light of the season.
The 22-year-old Jodzio feels that some of the charges get out of hand. For example, Quebec Nordiques claimed he hit Tardif with a high-stick, but films later showed that wasn't so. "I checked him and punched him, but I didn't hit him with my stick," Jodzio said at the time. "The stories that say I did are wrong." The league suspended Jodzio for the remainder of the playoffs and for an indefinite period thereafter but Cowboys planned on making him a regular in 1976-77.
