Excerpts from Pro Hockey, WHA 1975-76 (by Dan Proudfoot)
When David Keon, the serious, thoughtful captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs, predicted a tremendous season for his team a year ago, one of the factors he was considering was the young winger positioned to his left, Lyle Moffat.
Then things went wrong and, of course, Leafs' 1974-75 season ranged from being downright disturbing to laughable. Moffat, who had won the job after three years of minor league apprenticeship, suffered a separated shoulder. Afterward, he couldn't get going again and Leafs sent him back to the minors.
"We feel Moffat got a bad break in Toronto," says Crusader manager Jack Vivian, "so we were happy to sign him. Don't forget, he shared the Central league scoring lead with Danny Gruen two years ago."
