A typical Roadrunner is Bob Mowat, whose abilities as a checker were honed early in life when his junior coach in Winnipeg, Eddie Dorohoy, assigned him to check Flin Flon's clever center, Bobby Clarke. Mowat is neither reckless nor clinging. So many checkers are like leeches. Mowat sticks to his wing, anticipating the moves and mistakes of his rival. He will score only occasionally, but prevent several goals every night. |
