Regular Season & Playoff Scoring Record (key)

Eight years of National Hockey League experience mark Mike Pelyk as the leader of the Stinger defence.
"To my mind, Pelyk never had the stable position a guy needs to get confidence in the NHL," says Stinger coach Terry Slater. "I remember him being switched from one side to another on defence, and being moved up to the forward position to kill penalties. With us, Pelyk will have his spot and he'll be expected to play it well. He won't be moved around."
Pelyk hopes the move to Cincinnati is his last — he accepted an assignment with the WHA Vancouver Blazers last year, while contracted to Stingers, and discovered the constant long-mileage road trips to be extremely tiring. Still, he counted 40 points, nine more than he ever gained in an NHL season.

Many times the Cincinnati Stingers have been asked if they would entertain thoughts of trading this man ... Most frequent inquisitor is coach Joe Crozier of the Calgary Cowboys, the transplanted Vancouver Blazers who had Pelyk on loan in 1974-75 ... Aggressive describes him best ... Spent nine seasons in Maple Leafs' chain ... Scored more shorthanded goals (three) than any other WHA defenseman in 1974-75 ... Stingers advertise him as the "backbone" of their defense ... Fitness bug who works out daily on the Nautilus machines.
