Excerpts from Pro Hockey, WHA 1975-76 (by Dan Proudfoot)

Houston Aeros realized that Gordie Howe's eventual retirement, expected after the opening game at the new Summit arena in October, 1975, would upset. the balance of the team's offense. After all, the team didn't win a championship until Howe arrived in its second year.

"We tried to prepare for his absence by bringing along some kids," says Aero manager Bill Dineen, "and we were very fortunate that the fourth line, the kids, proved to be excellent. Terry Ruskowski is probably the toughest kid in the league. I mean, he fought his way around the league and never lost. All he lost was weight, because he finished up at 167 pounds after starting the year at 177. But that was an improvement. As a junior at Swift Current, Alberta, he killed penalties, did everything, and he used to end up at 157 pounds."

Excerpts from Zander Hollander Complete Hockey Handbook, 1975-76 (by Reyn Davis)

Compact package of muscle, speed and dynamic character ... Fears nobody, a handy attitude in the corners ... An honest worker ... Sports the best fu-manchu mustache in the league ... Forms one-third of Houston's Kid Line, with Don Larway and Rich Preston ... Shares a pad in Houston with his bachelor linemates ... Fancy stick handler ... An alumnus of the Swift Current Broncos, as is Larway ... Has the type of gleaming smile that would be perfect for toothpaste endorsements.
