Regular Season & Playoff Scoring Record (key)

A pearl picked out of the junior ranks ... Caught the Oilers eye in Canadian junior playoffs, leading his club to the OHA finals ... A tireless skater, and fast ... Won the praise of Bobby Hull for his speed, headiness and fairness ... One of the most popular Oilers in a town that is down on the team ... Destined to have a long and fruitful career in hockey ... Definitely one of the WHA's prize youngsters.

The 1975-76 season wasn't completely dismal for Edmonton Oilers, if only because of the arrival of three talented rookies: Bob Russell, Peter Morris and John Rogers. None of the three was a candidate for rookie-of-the-year, but Russell, especially, gave every indication that he's a big-leaguer.
Russell earned 31 points in 58 games, respectable for a youngster, and proved to be a highly-competent checker.
"He's a real speedster," says Bill Hunter, "and it was largely because of his play that we had so much success against the Winnipeg Jets in the latter stages of the regular schedule. He was captain Of the junior team at Sudbury, you know, and he's going to be a leader with us, too."
