Excerpts from Pro Hockey, WHA 1975-76 (by Dan Proudfoot)

Finesse, rather than muscle, is Brad Selwood's game, so he acts as a neat counterpoint to Rick Ley's bruising approach.

"I think of them together, possibly because they both came from the Toronto Maple Leafs to us," says Whaler manager-coach Jack Kelley, "but also because they're our defence stalwarts. I wouldn't trade them for any pair in the league."

Excerpts from Zander Hollander's Guide to Pro Hockey, 1975-76 (by Reyn Davis)

Considered the club comic and prince of practical jokes ... Opposing forwards don't find him a bit funny ... Takes a friendly delight in testing their temerity ... Once mulled over a baseball contract with the Detroit Tigers ... Devoted team man who has no patience for disloyalty or disinterest ... With Ted Green and Jim Dorey gone, he has become a senior member of the defense with Rick Ley

Excerpts from Pro Hockey, WHA 1976-77 (by Dan Proudfoot)

Brad Selwood left the Toronto Maple Leafs at the same time as Rick Ley and, like Ley, he's proven to be a key to the Whaler defense.

It was especially noticeable, then, when Selwood missed six weeks with a broken leg and came back for the playoffs before fully recovering. Selwood couldn't win any races for the puck, but his solid hockey thinking made him a useful contributor just the same.

And both Whalers and Selwood himself learned something because of his injury. For some reason, he lost approximately 15 pounds while out of uniform, the reverse of the usual tendency, and when he returned he seemed to be helped by not having to carry so much weight. So look for a new, lighter Brad Selwood in 1976-77.
