Excerpts from Pro Hockey, WHA 1975-76 (by Dan Proudfoot)
Normally, Gerry Moore likes to see a young man get a college education. In the case of Sheridan, though, the Racer coach breaths a sight of relief every time he thinks of him quitting school for hockey.
"This is the kind of guy we have to go with," says Moore. "He wants to play — you can see the desire every time he goes out on the ice. Look what he did for us — 17 goals and he hardly got to play. And this kid was in high school two years earlier."
Sheridan, 21, entered the University of Minnesota in 1973. As a freshman he played on the team that won the national collegiate (NCAA) championship, and then he decided to turn pro. Racers got the youngster, who also had been drafted by Minnesota North Stars of the NHL, and they're sure he'll develop into a top center, simply on the strength of his determination. The 6-foot-1, Minneapolis native is tough enough to make up for his somewhat ungainly skating.
