Excerpts from Pro Hockey, WHA 1976-77 (by Dan Proudfoot)
The New England Whalers use Gary Swain and Tom Earl as full-time penalty killers, which means they work as easily together as Sonny and Cher, though much more harmoniously. Both started their career with the Niagara Falls, Ont., juniors. "They've been killing penalties together so long they're both always in motion, they know what each other's doing," says coach Harry Neale. "Plus in the playoffs I used them occasionally on a fourth line. They're very useful workers."
