Excerpts from Pro Hockey, WHA 1976-77 (by Dan Proudfoot)
From fame (in a small Ontario city) to obscurity, Reg Thomas has experienced it all. But there are signs now that he may be emerging as everyone expected after a brilliant junior career.
"He'd played three years in our league," explains Jacques Demers, "but I still considered him a rookie. He never got the chance to play regularly and he'd had a terribly unsettled life. His teams were always moving or folding. Well, he played regularly for me and he did a job. When we got David Keon late in the year, Reg played on his wing and was better than ever before.
"At the end of the year, Reg thanked me for giving him the opportunity to play. I thanked him, in turn, for busting his butt
for me with his defensive play. I think you're going to see Reg continue to develop."
And finally, perhaps, Thomas will know some of the fame he enjoyed in 1973, when he was the captain of the London, Ont., Knights junior team and scored 52 goals and 83 assists.
