Vekol Mountain Hike
Vekol Mountains
Tohono O'odham Nation, Arizona • February 1, 2020

I joined Matthias, Scott, Mike and Paul for a hike up Vekol Mountain on the Tohono O'odham Nation. We walked a long ways on an old track then turned inward up a canyon. The terrain became very loose and rubbly and I lost interest about half-way up. I had hiked in about 4 miles, the peak was still another couple more.

They guys went on without me. Me, I walked back, following the road. There is no way to see the cars as they're hidden by trees, so I "tracked" myself back to our cars by following footprints, which was a challenge for the half-mile or so where we were off road, but I remembered enough of my training to gte myself back almost exactly on the nose.
